North American semiotician that, in contrast to Saussure's DYAD, offered a TRIAD to describe the sign.

The sign is divided into:
the REPRESENTAMEN, similar to the
signifier; the OBJECT, which is like the signified; and the INTERPRETANT.

The interpretant suggests a process called UNLIMITED SEMIOSIS.

It refers to the way in which the sign could lead to a series of successsive interpretants or signifiers.

The interpretant becomes the representamen of another object, or the same object suggests another representamen.
